PreparaPatente.it is an independent site for preparing the Italian patente B theory test on the true/false statements of the Ministry's list. A full mock exam — 30 statements in 20 minutes, a pass with at most 3 errors, as in the exam — is free, with no account. Every statement has an explanation, in Italian, that cites the article of the Codice della Strada or of its Regolamento the answer rests on. The app's menus and results are in English; the statements are in Italian, as in the exam. No ads.
The exam's languages
The theory test is given in Italian and, on request, in French or German anywhere in Italy (Ministry circular prot. 101771 of 21 December 2010). There is no English exam. Our English guide explains the format and has a glossary of the road terms the statements turn on.
Where the questions come from
From the «Patente B» list the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport publishes on the Portale dell'Automobilista: the list exam papers are drawn from, in the programme's 25 topics. The format (30 statements, 20 minutes, 3 errors) is the one set by the Ministry's decree of 27 October 2021, in force since 20 December 2021. In 2024 the Ministry published a new list rewritten in plainer Italian (circular prot. 19281 of 5 July 2024); the date it will be used in the exam has not been set yet. How the explanations are written and checked
Each explanation says why the statement is true or false and cites the article that decides it: of the Codice della Strada (Legislative Decree 285 of 30 April 1992) or, for road signs, of its Regolamento (Presidential Decree 495 of 16 December 1992). Our Codice della Strada pages carry the text in force from Normattiva, with the date each article has been in force since.
If you find a mistake
With an account, after you answer a statement you will find a «Segnala un errore» (report a mistake) button. We check every report against the law in force and, if you are right, fix the statement or its explanation. You can also write to support@preparapatente.it.
What it costs
One full mock exam (30 questions, 20 minutes) is free, with no account. A free account then gives you 24 hours without limits and after that 15 questions a day for free; unlimited access is a one-time €4.99, with no subscription and no ads.
Independence
PreparaPatente.it is not affiliated with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Motorizzazione Civile or any other public body. We are a private practice service: you apply for and sit the exam only through the Motorizzazione, on your own or through a driving school.
